Welcome

Opening Hymn

# 353 My Hope is Built on Nothing Less

Prayer of Confession &
Assurance of Pardon

Liturgist: We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty,

People: Maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

Liturgist: We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father,

People: God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,

Liturgist: Begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father;

People: Through him all things were made.

Liturgist: For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and became truly human.

People: For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered death and was buried.

Liturgist: On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures;

People: He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

Liturgist: We believe in the Holy Spirit,

People: The Lord, the giver of life,

Liturgist: who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

People: Who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified,

Liturgist: Who has spoken through the prophets.

People: We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.

Liturgist:
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

People: We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

# 776 O God, Be Gracious

Hymn of Assurance

# 651 I Waited Patiently for God

Profession of Faith

Creed Based on Martin Luther King Jr.'s "Letter from a Birmingham Jail"

Leader:
We believe in the vision of justice and equality,

People:
We believe that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.

Leader:
We affirm that we are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny.

People:
Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.

Leader:
We reject the idea that time alone will heal injustice, and we recognize that justice delayed is justice denied.

People:
We believe that the time is always ripe to do right.

Leader:
We stand against systems of oppression, segregation, and discrimination. We know that laws alone cannot change hearts, but laws can restrain the heartless.

People:
We believe in the power of nonviolent resistance to expose injustice and awaken the conscience of society.

Leader:
We confess that silence in the face of injustice is complicity, and that neutrality in times of moral crisis is not an option.

People:
We will not be silent when confronted with injustice.

Leader:
We believe in the redemptive power of love and the transformative power of hope.

People:
We believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word.

Leader:
We affirm that our faith calls us not just to speak of justice but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with our God.

People:
We commit ourselves to the work of justice, peace, and reconciliation.

Leader:
Let us remember Dr. King’s words: “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.”

People:
May we be the hands and feet that bend the arc with courage, faith, and perseverance.

Leader:
Together, we stand, we act, and we believe.

People:
Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
